Because Expericence Matters

Viagra

Michael Miller of The Miller Firm has been appointed to the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee of the nationwide multi-district litigation for Viagra blindness. As a member of the Sterring Committee, he and Christopher Gomez, a member of the firm, have been intimately involved in the discovery process and learning what Pfizer knew and when they knew it.

Viagra is the first prescription drug designed to treat men with erectile dysfunction. Over 23 million men worldwide have used this best-selling drug-- made by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer-- since the FDA first approved Viagra in 1998. Before Viagra entered the market, erectile dysfunction was not a condition about which men spoken openly. Since the approval of this popular lifestyle drug, Viagra has become a well-known and popular brand around the world. Aggressive marketing strategies launched by Pfizer are a major reason this drug enjoys this enormous popularity.

While Viagra is often able to successful treat men with erectile dysfunction, this drug is not without risks. Men who take nitrate medications should never take Viagra because this dangerous drug combination can produce deadly side effects. Men with certain existing health conditions are also advised not to take Viagra and similar erectile dysfunction drugs.

Viagra has also been associated with common side effects including prolonged erection, headache, flushing, gastrointestinal problems, increased sensitivity to light, trouble with perception of blue and green colors, and more. According to previous patient reports, some Viagra users have experienced heart attack, heart arrhythmia, stroke, increased blood pressure, and sudden death while taking Viagra.

The FDA became aware of possible Viagra vision loss problems after an ophthalmologist wrote an article describing seven patients who had suffered damage to their optic nerve within a day and a half of taking Viagra. In May 2005, the agency announced it had received reports of partial vision loss in at least 40 men who had used Viagra. In all of these cases of Viagra vision loss, the patients had developed a condition called nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

NAION can cause a temporary or permanent loss of vision. Because medical experts have not been able to establish a veritable link between Viagra and blindness, men are advised to consider the risks and benefits of using this medication with a trusted health care professional.
